Archi-Quiz: Can You Identify These Buildings From Their Architectural Models?

Laser-cut cardboard, wafer-thin balsa wood, slices of blue foam and a million tiny pieces of etched acrylic: These are the common tools of the trade for architects when it comes to modeling, and each material is only as crude or refined as the handiwork that goes into crafting it. The appeal of a great scale model is much the same as a great work of real-world architecture: The attention to detail, juxtaposition of materials and intricate craftsmanship on display can be truly inspirational to anyone with a discerning eye for design.

Models vary hugely as a mode of architectural representation: Some are virtual carbon copies of their full-scale counterparts, while others are stylized, deconstructed or abstracted to emphasize specific concepts within complex projects.
